Our Story

Cedar & Building Materials for Every DFW Project

Dallas Cedar specialises in a complete range of outdoor building materials selected for durability, beauty, and performance in the North Texas climate. Both our Garland and Arlington locations carry full inventory.

Cedar Lumber

Known for its resistance to rot and insects, cedar is an ideal choice for Texas weather. It’s commonly used for outdoor structures, adding both beauty and resilience.

Cedar Decking Boards

Smooth-sanded cedar decking stays cooler underfoot, resists warping in extreme Texas heat, and takes stain exceptionally well. Ideal for pool areas, elevated patios, and backyard retreats. Composite decking also available for low-maintenance builds.

Pergola & Patio Cover Lumber

Hand-selected cedar beams, posts, and trim profiles for pergolas, arbors, and attached patio covers. Outdoor living is one of the fastest-growing project types across North Texas, and cedar is the preferred material for its natural performance in harsh Texas sun.

Douglas Fir Structural Lumber

For structural applications where strength is the priority, Douglas Fir is the contractor's choice. Strong, straight-grained, and ideal for load-bearing beams, subframe construction, and elevated deck systems. Stocked in a range of dimensional sizes at both locations.

Cedar Siding & Exterior Trim

Bevel siding, channel siding, and trim profiles for rustic farmhouse exteriors, board-and-batten accents, and decorative wall finishes. Cedar insulates naturally, resists dimensional change with temperature swings, and accepts stain, paint, or clear finish with equal ease.

Fasteners, Hardware & Supplies

Complete your full bill of materials in one stop. We carry Simpson Strong-Tie connectors, stainless and hot-dipped galvanized fasteners, gate hardware, post anchors, deck screws, fence staples, stains, and sealants for wood protection in the Texas climate.

Why Cedar?

Why Cedar Is the Right Choice for Texas Builds

Texas weather puts building materials to the test — 100°F+ summers, humidity surges, and relentless UV exposure. Western Red Cedar thrives in these conditions.

🛡️ Naturally Rot & Insect Resistant

Cedar's natural oils repel moisture and insects without chemical pressure treatment — safer near pools, gardens, and play areas.

🌡️ Thermally Stable in Texas Heat

Cedar expands and contracts less than treated pine in temperature extremes, reducing splitting, cupping, and nail pop over time.

❄️ Cool to the Touch

Cedar's cellular structure traps air, making it naturally insulating — cooler underfoot than composite or metal in direct summer sun.

📅 30+ Year Service Life

Properly sealed cedar structures in DFW consistently last 20–30+ years, often outlasting pressure-treated pine by a significant margin.

🎨 Takes Stain Beautifully

Cedar accepts stain and sealant exceptionally well. Annual or biannual maintenance preserves color and extends service life indefinitely.
